[kaz literally just cuts the feed off for a moment before coming back a couple minutes later (to make sure jesper really sweats, tbh.)]
Funny, for a moment there it sounded like you just said "I'm in jail."
[there's no humor in his voice, though, and not really any disbelief either. he definitely believes that's where jesper is but his response is with a marked incredulity.]
[ YEAH that... definitely makes him sweat. Would Kaz leave him? Would he finally decide this was the last straw, and ask him to never speak to him again? Is Jesper doing whatever Kaz's dead brother did, before he died?
Fuck, he's really fucked it up, hasn't he. Jesper takes a bit to respond too, but mostly because he's a little fucking terrified. ]
That's because... I am.
death by drunktank or death by kaz which one sounds nicer
Well, I met up with this guy, Hiruma, and we came up with a plan to kind of help the people in Perdition's Rest fight back, since the sheriff has her hands full with the bandits and the Deemers.
[ Which sounds all well and good for now but just wait. ]
We figured since things were going to hell in a hand basket, the munitions' depot might not mind if we stole a few weapons to hand out to the rest of the people left in town. Teach them how to shoot, help them defend themselves, you know?
The people at the munitions people didn't exactly agree.
[ Is he madder because he failed or because Jesper didn't invite him?? This is both hot and confusing and terrifying, Jesper doesn't know what to do. ]
But, instead, you stupidly went and did it yourself. What if it hadn't been the sheriff who caught you? Did it even cross your mind the owner of a munitions store might fight back?
[there's a tension that isn't just the anger. it's mostly anger, but jesper has known kaz long enough he should pick up on it. he's still reeling about inej. he's still hating himself for having lost her. and now he's having to babysit jesper and he doesn't seem to be able to keep any of his teammates close.]
You should have told me. [its like kaz told giorno - it's his responsibility. but most importantly, and he intends it to sting the most:] I am tired of cleaning up your messes.
[ Jesper can hear the anxiety hidden in Kaz's anger. It sucks to be the one who put it there. He didn't mean to make it worse for him, he really wanted to do something good-- or something reckless, more like. Not being able to gamble was driving him a little stir crazy, but he only has himself to blame here, he knows it. Kaz knows it.
There's really no excuse. ]
...I know.
[ He said he'd be better and he hasn't. He said he'd stop making the same mistakes, but he has. ]
I know, Kaz. [ He sighs. There's nothing he can do to undo this. He can kiss trust he was gaining with Kaz goodbye. ] I'm sorry.
no don't
[ Hilarious! I know! ]
They said they'd just be holding us overnight though. I'll be back in your metaphorical arms tomorrow morning, promise.
rip jesper enjoy the drunktank

Let me see if I understand this. I break us out of the Ice Court, but you get captured by a sheriff of a backwater town.
drunktank, that's not even a question
Yeeeah, that... that sounds about right.
[ A pause. ]
But uh, hey? On the bright side? This jail is nothing to write home about.
so was i said leaving jesper in the drunktank
[kaz being actually sarcastic and biting instead of just deadpan and short i would absolutely try and run
oh wait you cant because youre in JAIL because youre an IDIOT]
he can rot and die there and it would still be nicer than whatever kaz brekker had in mind
[ Which sounds all well and good for now but just wait. ]

Jesper, can I ask you a question?
u don't fucking mess with kaz brekker I know
Uh.... sure. Shoot.
[ Kaz's tone does not bode well for Jesper Fahey. ]

So if you were going to try and rob a locked location, I wonder, would you bring someone who actually knows how to pick a lock?
